Tampa Bay Classic 2017 results
The Kayak Fishing ClassicS held the Tampa Bay Classic where anglers tried their best to put together a Gulf Coast Slam; one each of Snook, Trout and Redfish. The event was hosted by Billy’s Stone Crab & Steak House in Tierra Verde, Florida. The pristine waters of Tampa Bay greeted the anglers with what looked to be fantastic fishing conditions. Not to hot, not too sunny, a light breeze, moving tides and a bay loaded with bait…perfect.
The anglers launched early in the morning and positioned themselves for the hunt and began scoring fish almost immediately then it stopped. From my vantage point I could only see Star Fish Bay area so I checked my radar for weather and saw that small areas of rain had broken out. Nothing severe just rain, so on we went.
Well it rained and stopped and rained some more most of the morning. Sight fishing became almost impossible as some very good anglers struggled to score points. It’s odd how rain affects inshore fishing when one considers that the fish are already wet. Let’s take a look at how it scored at weigh in.
